A focused group discussion and consultation meeting was held at Nagarbari River Port, conducted by Syed Monowar Hussain, Secretary (Ret.), BIWTA, and Consultant for BRWTP-1, S-11. This meeting was part of the BIWTA Ports Inventory Mapping & Origin-Destination Survey, aimed at identifying logistics gaps and enhancing the inland waterway supply chain under the Bangladesh Regional Waterway Transport Project (BRWTP-1) (IDA Credit No. 5842-BD, Package Contract No. BRWTP-S11).
Nagarbari River Port plays a vital role in strengthening regional connectivity and improving trade and transportation efficiency. As a key inland waterway hub, its development is essential for streamlining supply chains and boosting economic growth. Identifying appropriate logistics solutions will ensure that inland water transport remains a sustainable and efficient alternative for goods movement across Bangladesh.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahman (Consultant Focal Point), Rabin Mondal Sabuj (Consultant Representative), and Md. Fazlur Rahman (Traffic Expert/Deputy Team Leader), along with other industry experts. Discussions focused on addressing infrastructure gaps and optimizing water transport networks to enhance overall efficiency.
With the growing need for sustainable transport solutions, developing and modernizing Nagarbari River Port will be crucial for Bangladesh’s logistics sector. Stakeholders remain committed to finding innovative strategies that will maximize the potential of inland waterways and drive future development.
